Technologies // Next.js
The React framework for applications: server rendering, authentication, APIs and databases in one codebase. Our own client portal runs on it. We use it when a site is really a product with a website attached.
When it fits
What we do with it
Authentication, roles, audit trails and the integrations a membership or client portal needs.
Custom storefronts on Shopify or a commerce API when the standard theme cannot do what the business needs.
Deployed on Vercel or Cloudflare with preview environments, monitoring and backups.
Proof: Our client portal at clients.kickassonline.com is a Next.js application with Supabase behind it.
Questions
Next.js when the site is an application: log-ins, personal data, live interaction. Astro when it is content. Many clients end up with both: an Astro marketing site and a Next.js portal.
Vercel is the natural home and the one we use most; Cloudflare works too. The accounts are in your name either way.
Yes. We review the codebase, dependencies and hosting first, write down what we find, and quote any repairs before running it under a care plan.
Yes. Authentication, APIs and the database, usually on Supabase or Postgres, with roles and audit trails where personal data is involved.
Portals are phased at discovery and typically run three to five months, with a working staging site from the first sprint.
