Generative engine optimisation.

When a buyer asks ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot or Google’s AI Mode who to hire, the AI writes its own answer and names a handful of organisations. Generative engine optimisation is the work that gets you on that list, makes sure you are described accurately, and keeps you there. We report it every month next to your Google rankings and your enquiries.

Send the brief

AI recommends the businesses it can describe.

Language models name organisations they have read about consistently, in many places, in words they can reuse. A business with a thin website, different details on every directory and no third-party mentions is invisible to them, however good its work is.

The usual approach

Hope the AI finds you.

  • Problem: Name, services and prices described differently on every site.
  • Problem: No llms.txt, no structured data, AI crawlers blocked by accident.
  • Problem: Nobody outside your own website mentions you.
  • Problem: No idea what ChatGPT says about you today.

The Kickass standard

Give the AI a business it can describe.

  • Instead: One consistent description of who you are, what you do and where.
  • Instead: llms.txt, schema and crawler access set up properly.
  • Instead: Mentions earned on the sites AI tools already trust in your sector.
  • Instead: A monthly prompt report: who is named, what is said, who else appears.

How we do GEO.

  1. AI visibility audit

We run a fixed set of buyer prompts through ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini and Google AI Overviews, and record whether you appear, what is said, which sources are cited and which competitors are named instead.

  2. Entity clean-up

We make your name, services, locations, prices and credentials say the same thing on your website, Google Business Profile, directories, LinkedIn and review platforms, so every source agrees about who you are.

  3. A machine-readable site

An llms.txt file, Organization, Service, Review and FAQ schema, open access for the AI crawlers you want, and pages written in self-contained paragraphs an AI can quote without the surrounding page.

  4. Third-party proof

We earn mentions where AI tools look for evidence: sector directories, comparison articles, trade press, client case studies and reviews. A model trusts what other sources say about you more than what you say about yourself.

  5. Track and report

The prompt set runs every month. You see your share of mentions against named competitors, how accurately you are described, and how many visits AI tools send to the site.

GEO FAQ

What is GEO?

Generative engine optimisation is the practice of getting an organisation mentioned, accurately described and recommended in answers written by AI tools such as ChatGPT, Perplexity, Copilot, Gemini and Google’s AI Mode and AI Overviews.

Is GEO the same as SEO?

No, but they overlap. SEO ranks a page in a list of links. GEO gets your organisation named inside an answer the AI writes itself, often drawing on several sources. Strong SEO helps, because many AI tools search the web before they answer, but GEO adds entity consistency, third-party mentions and prompt tracking.

Does GEO mean geographic targeting?

Not here. Some agencies use GEO for location-targeted advertising. In AI search, GEO means generative engine optimisation. If you want to reach people in a particular town or region, that is local SEO, which we also do.

How do you measure GEO?

Each month we run the same set of buyer questions through the main assistants and record whether you are named, what they say about you, which sources they cite and who else they recommend. Alongside that we report the visits that AI tools send to your site.

How long does GEO take?

Technical fixes and llms.txt can be picked up within weeks by AI tools that browse the web. Being recommended by a model answering from memory takes longer, because it depends on what is written about you elsewhere. Plan on three to six months for a measurable change.

How much does GEO cost?

GEO sits inside our SEO retainers, which start at £1,000 + VAT a month, or we quote it as a standalone project after the audit. A new site built to be recommended by AI from day one starts at £2,000 + VAT; see agentic websites.
